Compliance work involves requirements, evidence, judgment, and follow-up. Automation can help gather configured information and organize the review, but it cannot turn missing or unsuitable evidence into an assurance conclusion.

## Start with a reviewable requirement

Identify the question the team needs to answer. For example, can a reviewer establish which people approved a change and which document version they considered? Define the expected evidence, its source, the relevant period, and the person responsible for assessing it.

A framework label alone is insufficient. Your organization needs to map the actual process and applicable requirements to the evidence it intends to collect.

## Connect and check the sources

Configure the supported source systems and credentials. Inspect the information that arrives, including its timestamps, document references, and coverage. A successful connector response does not necessarily mean the response contains the evidence your particular review needs.

Keep collection failures visible. A source that is disconnected or unavailable should not result in an invented clean report or a claim that no exceptions exist.

## Give exceptions an owner

- Record which requirement or review the exception concerns.
- Preserve the relevant source references and document versions.
- Assign a responsible reviewer.
- Record the assessment, requested follow-up, and resolution.
- Keep the evidence behind the final decision available to authorized reviewers.

An AI summary may help a reviewer read a package, but the reviewer still assesses the underlying material. Record corrections and unresolved questions rather than treating the generated summary as an authoritative determination.

## Evaluate the output honestly

A workflow’s completion state describes its configured tasks. A signed receipt describes a reported event. Neither is a certification or a guarantee that the organization satisfies every applicable obligation. Review coverage, limitations, and the responsible person’s conclusion before relying on an export.

For a practical example, follow [audit evidence submissions](https://www.truthlocks.com/industries/accounting#audit-submissions) or [milestone acceptance](https://www.truthlocks.com/industries/professional-services#milestone-signoff). Start with one evidence question and make its entire review path understandable.
